History

Hospital Radio Basingstoke, owned by Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Hospital Trust and operated as an independent charity, has been broadcasting since 1972. From its home at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital it broadcasts around the clock to over 7,000 patients in the hospital via a network of loud speakers. The station also broadcasts online via its website and on 87. 7 FM to the local community from Alton, Bishop & Blackwater Hospitals. Hospital Radio Basingstoke was awarded a five-year licence by the broadcasting authority, Independent Television Commission (ITC), in 1976.

The station began 24-hour broadcasting in September that year. In 1979 the station began planning for its move from AM to the FM band. After a successful recruitment campaign and fund raising activities, the station was able to launch its FM frequencies on 16 June 1982. Hospital Radio Basingstoke (HRB) is a volunteer hospital radio station based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Berkshire, England. The station, which began broadcasting in 1972, has its studio and offices at the central block of the hospital site.

Hospital Radio Basingstoke Radio (96. 1 FM & 945 AM) is a hospital radio station broadcasting to the Basingstoke area in Hampshire, United Kingdom. It was set up in 1972 by the then Basingstoke and North Hants Hospital (now the BNH Hospital). It’s been beautifully converted into a glass distillery but still has all the character of an old victorian mill. When Bombay Sapphire opened up their new gin-flinging offices back in 2013, me and the other half headed up on a bright sunny Sunday morning to experience everything about it.
